Recognition

One of the most effective ways of retaining existing volunteers is to ensure that they are recognised for their work and that they feel valued. There are a number of ways of recognising the efforts of volunteers, however one of the most effective is just to say 'thank you'.

Encourage your members to say "thank you" to their coaches, officials etc. Put together an appreciation pack for members to explain what goes on behind the scenes. This could include, a list of all the people who work behind the scenes at the club and their roles and nomination forms for club monthly awards and annual awards for volunteers and helpers.

Volunteers can be thanked in various ways:

• A face-to-face thank you
• Make a phone call immediately after a competition or an event
• Send a card or letter
